Apple IIc Flat Panel Display

Description

Model: Apple IIc Flat Panel Display
Type: Display
Category: Apple IIc Flat Panel Display
Year: 1984
Screen: 5”

Description: The Flat Panel Display was the first monochrome LCD screen from Apple, released in 1984. It only worked on the Apple IIc computer and was part of the portability enhancement program from Apple.

The screen was not back lid, making it very difficult to read without external light. The biggest problem was that the screen was not proportionate, graphics and text were vertically squeezed making it almost unusable for general usage.

Apple produced almost 10,000 such displays. They are raritities today. Only a handful can be found in collections around the world.

As this is amongst the first flat screens ever used in computer technologies; a “historical” piece.

This item is part the Philippe Poppe Apple computer collection.
